    • I like my Macbook, it looks sexy and not like a sack of *something bad* :)

      Anyway, each to their own.

So, why does RT have a Apple/Mac forum....because the RT team have Macs and our passion is Macs so we are in a prime position to discuss Mac related topics that are prevalent to what we do, web design. See it as an outlet for the RT team to discuss all things Apple and RT :)

Im torn because the IT degree in me says I will never go MAC, but the Web Designer/Developer urns for the MAC toys...

What can I say, PC's will hopefully keep me with a job

But it seems like you still don't know how to write the name ... Mac. MAC is an acronym, and most people with a IT degree really should know better.

And about the price? Well, I myself has been a Mac user for 14 years, but when I was going to buy my last workstation I was also considering other brands. This was in 2005, and I was looking for a computer with 2 x Dual Core chips at a minimum of 2.66Ghz. Dell had a pretty reasonable priced PC, at least with only one CPU. But when I added the second CPU the PC was suddenly 1300$ more expensive than the Mac Pro. I also checked out several other brands, and it was the same with these. The Mac Pro was simply the cheapest one for my use.

Yes, the consumer versions of the Mac may be expensive for some. But it all come down to what your looking for. Ex. the iMac niche actually doesn't have that many competitors in it's niche. Sony with it's Vaio series is one of the few brands that actually compete with the iMac, and most people say the Vaio series is particularly cheap?! Heck, even though

Lastly, when people talk about the stability of Windows, Linux, *NIX and Mac OS X, most people will have no clue of what they're talking about. I run all four, and they all run fine on my computers. Even Windows after I have got rid of the junk that most PC's have preinstalled. I only turn off my computers (, 3 desktops, 3 laptops, and 7 servers,) when I update the OS, and that's pretty much it.

Ok, so I lied. But this will be the last one. I still use two of my old protable Macs, a PowerBook G3 Wallstreet with a whooping speed of 233 Mhz that I bought 1998, and an iBook G3 500 Mhz that I bought in 2001. And I still use them daily. They are still running strong. The PowerBook is used for server monitoring and management, while the iBook is used for ... well, most of my writing. They just seem to never want to die. And as I have promised myself too buy yet another portable Mac when my existing ones die, it seems like I'll have to wait for a long time. They just won't die. I've also used a couple of laptops from both Dell and HP, and they both only lasted for approx. two years.

So the moral of the story? I got no idea. But I can say that my Mac's last considerable longer than the PC's I use.

    • My Timex Sinclair still runs strong, but my Apple IIE is kaput; does this make the Timex better than Macs, given it lasted 10x longer? ;) I think I paid $59.95 for the Timex in 1982. :)

Thanks for the insult, but you have lots of good points..

Oh dearest, I didn't want to insult you, and I am sorry if I did. I got a minor problem in life as I have a tendency to use a bit too much irony and sarcasm. It's a pretty big part of my humor, and I know there are some people who won't necessarily see this in the same way as I do.

Terp: Oh come on. That's not even worth an answer. Comparing a watch with a computer ...

      And one more thing ...

During the 14 years I've used a Mac, I've been harassed by way too many people who believe they can harass me only because I use a Mac. I was even harassed by one of the staff on the IT-staff at my last job. And yes, I've also met Mac user's who will talk negatively about MS and Windows (you know them, the fools using words like Wind@ss, M$ etc.), and I don't like it. But then again, most of these people tend to be quite ignorant regarding the use of the Mac itself.

What I've trying to say here ... is that people buy different computers, just as they buy different cars, clothing, and everything else. We are all different, and we all have different reasons for buying a computer.

PS: BTW, I even wrote a thesis for my Masters degree in sociology about the Mac culture as a subculture. That's how far I've gone about my affection for the Mac culture. (Not, Apple.)
