    Static conversion to Joomla Template

Posted 16 years 2 months ago
    • On average - how many hours would you guestimate that it takes to take a static website and turn it into a Joomla template so you can turn a regular website in a CMS and keep the same look. And I'm talking about having the psd/png image of the site to slice it up, create the index.php, and the css files.

    • "How long is a piece of string?"

Mate, it really depends on your skills, the complexity of the design, whether you need to redesign certain parts of the template to incorporate provisions for various CMS elements (breadcrumbs, modules, main content, etc), whether you're going to allow provision for module columns to collapse in the absence of content, whether you need to rewrite a drop-down menu to receive input from the CMS ... blah ... blah ... blah

Do your client a favour and convince them that $50 for an RT template is better than $1000 for you to recode their crappy static HTML site for a CMS.

    • Yea I agree and all but not all clients want a template for a website.

I know my question is pretty broad but the majority of responses I've gotten is 25-35 hours to take a PSD file and slice it up, create the index.php page, and the css files. I just thought I'd check with the developers/members here on their thoughts to see how accurate that number is.

    • It could take longer still if you need to make provision for some of the things I mentioned above. Like a good menu, collapsable "columns" in the absence of content, and all those other cool tidbits an RT template comes with.

C'mon man ... we're in the IT trade ... none of our customers have a CLUE what they want (or what they think) until we TELL them what to think.
