Where else is your J! DB username stored?

Posted 16 years 2 months ago
    • ..having some issues that are concerning me today, so wanted to ask here before I go nuclear and go through files and db tables all day. ;)

I took a backup of my live site and installed locally like I have done a thousand times. The db username for the live site has a format like mysite_Terp, for example. When I configure locally, I create a new db with a username of simply Terp, change the parameters in the backup's configuration.php file, and it works 100% of the time. ;)

Well, where else would the live site db udername be stored? I changed it in the confirgation.php, cleared all cache, checked the global configuration files, etc, etc...

I only ask, as I assumed changing it in the configuration file was enough, but I had a strange FF error on my localhose install that said it had trouble accessing mysite_Terp but it shouldn't know about that, as I changed the db username to Terp when I installed locally...so somewhere that info is still in the db/files somewhere and being called. Scary. :)

    • Have you got other software in the picture such as phpBB? It really shouldn't be anywhere but the configuration.php file unless there's something else running along with it.

    • Yea, good call...I finally figured it out and it was, in fact, phpbb3, so I suspect something to do with the bridge/sync...strange.

So I take a backup, install locally, change all the parameters except for phpbb3's config.php settings, given I am not testing the forum, and it fired errors on non-forum pages and attributed the error to another component, which concerned me. :)

I really need to sit down and look at the mechanics of the bridge, as I didn't think it would be a problem since 1.) not navigating to the forum, 2.) no links to the forum, and 3.) forums in their own database. :) But leaving the config.php settings alone and not setting for a local install boinked the whole Joomla site....

    • I haven't looked at the mechanics of Rokbridge - but in being able to sync both user databases in real time WITHOUT a core hack would require some really tight integration ... so I'm not particularly surprised or concerned. If the bridge you're using is indeed Rokbridge, then you know it's good gear and you should be able to get rid of any problem by simply uninstalling the bridge for testing if you need to go that far.
