Installing live site on local machine using WAMP

Hello to all you Joomla people.
Question for you!
I would like to try out some new ideas on my site but not on the live one, so I would like to install a copy onto my machine using WAMP.
Can anyone provide me with a step by step guide as i have never done this before?
I have already installed a new joomla site onto WHAMP and it works fine,

If I understand correctly, you want to transfer a copy of your live site to your local machine?
If so, use JoomlaPack.
Create a new database on your local machine for the install...
Install JoomlaPack on your live site.
Back up your live site
Download the zip file JoomlaPack creates and extract it (this will be your entire site, DB info, and a new install directory)
Place it in your htdocs or public_html folder
Run the install as you normally would
Provide the new DB details when prompted to do so - Thanks,

Are you receiving errors?
How are you trying to extract?
Windows default, WinZip, 7zip?
Try to download the zip again and / or use a different program to extract the file. - Thanks,

Sounds like
A) some sort permission error on the files that got zipped, you can try to change the file permission
the folder is in the wrong directory, i.e., htdocs, public_html
You may want to post over at JoomlaPack, I took a look in the documentation and didn't see anything pertaining to that error but it may be addressed there.
Could be a problem with WAMP, but I use XAMMP, so I can't say for sure. - Thanks,

Can't say for sure, never used WAMP.
I had some problems getting started, out of the ordinary stuff.

Ok I have failed to make JoomlaPack work.
I need to know how to do this manually.
Is there anyone who can guide me how to do this, or point me in the direction of where i can find the information?
