SEF - use Joomla Built-in or sh404sef??

  • SEF - use Joomla Built-in or sh404sef??

    • I've read through numerous posts regarding both Joomla's built-in SEF capabilities and sh404sef. In general, which route have you had the most consistent success with? Any general tips or considerations are appreciated. The main components that have been added to my site are VirtueMart & Phoca Gallery.

      Thanks in advance!

    • What do you consider to be "success"?

Default Joomla SEF is fine if you just want pretty URLs - sh404SEF allows more options that you would be interested in if you want an easier way to manipulate your SEPs.

Well, I suppose it's setting the bar rather low :) , but part of my definition of "success" is that the installed components/plug-ins on my site continue to work. Have you found that one or the other causes fewer conflicts?

Thanks very much for your assistance!

    • I very much like sh404SEF and haven't often used the default Joomla SEF, although I think sh404SEF may be a bit of overkill in your particular situation. One thing I particularly like about sh404SEF is that you can tell it to ignore a particular component(s) if you find that load is too heavy (forums) or if the component is not handling the rewrite too well.

Default Joomla SEF URLs don't introduce the load problem, but you're quite limited with what you can do with it.

    • If your smart about your navigation, you can get pretty good results with the default SEF. We are using the default SEF here, and we have been very pleased with the results.
