Joomla 1.5, - phpbb - and a new site

I have an idea but really not sure how to do it or if I should do it.
first off, I have an up and running community site using Joomla 1.5, community builder and fireboard.
I kinda want to start over making a brand new site using 1.5 and phpBB.
Playing around with phpBB a lil, I think I could omit Community Builder in the new site.
So if I build a new site from ground up - say in another directory, could I move my members and posts to the new site easily?
And any opinions about whether I should omit community builder - being that phpBB has nice community features?
I just want a nice new clean and fast functioning site - and would rather begin new than remodel my old site. I'm thinking since it would be moving from an old 1.5 database to a new 1.5 it may not be too hard.
Any advice, opinions, tips - would be much apprecitated!
