    Migrating Usernames and Passwords? SOLVED

Posted 18 years 4 months ago
    • I have a local server set up on my machine. I've built a RT themedJoomla (1.0.11) website that will replace a current Joomla site (1.0.11). I have 60+ users on the current site - with Usernames and Passwords. The new site, that I built, only has my 'admin' user.

      QUESTION:

Is there a way to 'import' the many users from the old site to the new site that is still local on my machine? I'd hate to have each of them to Register and Login again. Is there a way to do this?

      Thanks much!

Hmmm... I'm not sure, Stew. I guess I could try this. I'll try that and get back to you. Thanks for the reply.

I read the post that you sent. It assumed more than I'm up to speed on. Do you know the steps, Stew? I'd appreciate it. I'm a but lost right now. I can export and import a whole database, but I can't seem to get those three tables to export/import. Can you (or anyone) help?

    • Do you have access to phpMyAdmin? If so, it is pretty simple.

Select the joomla database. Check the appropriate tables of the database, then click the export button. You will have a number of choices for format including Excel, CSV. SQL, and others.

Once it is on you local drive, you can import the tables or insert the data into the appropriate table of your new database.

      Thanks Stephen,

Yes, I'm using phpMyAdmin. I exported tthe tables as you suggested, but I'm having trouble importing into the other database? Should I delet the old table first before I import - and, how do you import there, anyway?

      Thanks much!

    • It was simple once I figured it out. I had to export-import each of the three tables separately.

If anyone wants me to walk them through it, just send me a Private Message.

      Thanks all.
