    • Yeah, I'm late to the party too, but I just received an email message from my hosting provider that I couldn't believe. Basically they are upgrading my shared hosting account to 'unmetered'... well, everything except SQL databases. They will only allow me to have 100 of those. I've been with them a good long time and this is how they are thanking me. So, for $11/month I no longer have to worry about bandwidth and/or storage space. Tech support 24/7 and I can't remember when/if I've ever experience downtime with them.
As you probably gathered, right now I am extremely pleased with HostingMatters and I would recommend them to anyone.

      Hope this helps some one...

    • I think there's two situations here:
1.You aren't a developer and you have just a small site(option to be in any of the UNLIMITED space hosts)
      or
2.You are a developer or a person with multiple websites maintaining them(option ROCHEN,they don't offer you UNLIMITED space but they have a first class computer and support that will make you have PEACE OF MIND)
      just a tought... :D

you can compare the situation with ROCKET THEME TEMPLATES:
There's a lot of template makers and templates available for free out there(UNLIMITED i supose)
      but
If you want a good template and support and PEACE OF MIND......here we are.

    • "Don't trust anybody, and especially when there is money involved."

This should be your most important rule regarding webhosting.

The "unlimited" bandwidth your host upgraded too is not truly unlimited as they will always find a reason to kick you off if you use too many rescources. The main cost in webhosting is the bandwidth, and then you got the hardware and power. So when somebody claims something is unlimited I usually forget what they said and moves on.

Anyway, you should always keep at least a weekly backup of all your files and databases outside of the server. I use BQBackup myself.

Personally I use the following: Rapidswitch (gonna leave these), UK2, The Planet and Limestone Networks. All with either dedicated servers or colo. I'm also testing VPS.net at the moment to replace some of the dedicated hosting.

      I hear ya. :)

I would agree with this. However, in my case (at least with this situation), I believe they upgraded my account to 'unmetered' for the following reasons:

      1. I've been with them for ~4 years.
      2. I run one rather small web site and don't use too much in the way of bandwidth or disk space. The highest bandwidth I've seen is 2.25 Gig for the month of November 2008 and right now I'm at ~600 MB of storage.
      3. I rarely 'bother' them with support tickets.
      4. I pay every month and on time.

If I were running a web hosting business, this is the type of client I'd like to have.
Business is tough right now. I think they are just throwing me (and other customers in the same situation) a bone as appreciation.

As I said, they are a very good company. You can check out their Florida based facility info here:
      dedicated.hostmatters.com/facility.html

Please note that I do not work for them. I'm just a satisfied customer.

    • someone is always going to contradict you whatever you say.however, I have used four hosting sites in the last few years.

My first was Dreamhost. Support is reasonably good. For about £100 a year you can host unlimited domains, SQL, subdomain. Disk space is "500 GB" However, once I had quite a few sites running on DH I found that things started running a little bit slowly. I then went on to a private server for a while and sites were quite a bit faster. Just recently I have been moving my sites off and just have one left on there. I have now switched back to shared hosting and the one remaining site is moving at an acceptable speed.

Rochen - I have a reseller hosting with them for about a year but gave it up because it really wasn't worth my while. From what I remember, they provide four packages with reseller hosting which goes up to 4 GB for something like £55 a month. In theory, you could make money from something like this if you have plenty of clients. Their basic shared packages seem to only go up to 1 GB. That wouldn't be enough for all my websites. I also found some members on the forum to be rather snotty, arrogant and quite frankly quite unpleasant.

Site ground - unlimited disk space. Unfortunately I didn't read the conditions properly and after I had purchased the package I realise that you could only have five add-ons on my package and each one would be an additional £30. So after my time is up, I won't be using them.

And now we come to host gator. Along the same lines as dream host but better quality servers I would imagine. You also get a great Cpanel which makes life so easy. Also the forum on HG is very good for support as well.

I've only been using HG for a few weeks but early indications are very favourable

      That's my experience anyway
