Can I place banners outside of my joomla- and phpbb-site?

  • Can I place banners outside of my joomla- and phpbb-site?

Posted 15 years 6 months ago
    • I have a joomla site and a phpbb3-forum both using the same template from RocketTheme. I want to have some ads on these sites, but I am not sure where to start.

I have an advertisement mod for phpbb3 and a banner-plugin for joomla, but since this is kind of outside of the pages, I`m not sure how to to it.

I want to have a leaderboard (728x90) at the very top, and a couple of wide skyscrapers (160x600) at the right side.

Any ideas how to get this working?

    • Is this a phpbb3 or a joomla question?

    • It`s actually both, since I want the banners at both places. :)

But the Joomla-menu is shown in phpbb, so I guess it`s enough to add the banners here?

    • No, it is not. However, you are on the right path. I suggest you take a look at Bens' tutorial on creating new positions/modules in phpbb3 styles section. That will present you with what you are looking for.

    • I can find this for multiple styles, but not metamorph. Can I use any of the others in my style?

And this is only for phpbb3? I need to find another way to display banners in Joomla?

    • The way to use the information inside the tutorial is meant for you to understand how it will work for your style. When you examine the code you will understand exactly what needs to be done.
This is indeed only for phpbb3.

You don`t happen to know of a way to do this in Joomla too?

    • It depends ofcourse which ads you wish to put, there are modules that help you displaying ads. Depending on your needs select the mod.
Here is an example for googleads: extensions.joomla.org/extensions/ads-&-a...ogle-ads/243/details
just look around in the joomla extensions directory for ad modules.

    • I want to use flash-banners, and I have found a plugin which is working good. The problem is just to find out how to get the banners to show where I want to, since there are no positions that exist here...

    • Are you talking now about joomla or phpbb3?
