- I am trying to convert a .wmv file to a mpeg or avi. I want to convert the video so I can edit it in imovie.

You'll need some type of conversion program or some type of DVD or video editing application that will convert or save or your .wmv to the format you need.
You may be able to find a free solution or download some trial software that will allow you to do so, for example, Roxio, Adobe Premeire Elements, or Camtasia.
I don't know if Roxio or Adobe Premiere Elements have limited functionality in their trials, but you should be able to do it with the Camtasia trial by placing it on the timeline and then exporting it as mpeg or avi. - Thanks,
