    • it's a little difficult to know where you stand with Joomla sometimes. When a new release comes out, there is a message along the lines of users are urged to upgrade straight away. Are we urged to upgrade because things will work better, or because we are at risk using slightly older software? None of my websites are using Joomla 1.5.13 at the moment. I think only one of them is 1.5.12, the rest are 1.5.11.Either Joomla is safe or it isn't.

If I bought a car and every couple of months I got a recall, I would ask for my money back.

    • hi penn,

i do understand your frustrations with the joomla updates, as it can be a bit of work to get all sites backed up and then updated. just imagine andy and the rest of the rockettheme team, having to update 80+ demo sites and all the rocketlaunchers every time!

but in the end, i prefer to have a software update regularly to know that things are being improved, performance and security wise. better this way then not having an update at all.

joomla recommends the immediate update because once a new security release comes out, the former security risk of the former version is known and hackers will go on and hack not updated joomla sites.

if i had a car and recalls every couple of months, i would ask for my money back too, but since we never had to pay anything to use joomla, i think we should all appreciate the hard work these guys do and be happy that they constantly provide us with necessary updates.

kat :D (running all sites with 1.5.13 at the moment)

    • If you use SEF Patch, the 1.5.12 version will work with 13, as 1.5.13 joomla update doesnt affect any files that SEF Patch modifies(apparently) :)

    • one of my sites is 1.5.11 which also has the appropriate SEF patch installed. is it necessary to use the undo patch before upgrading from 1.5.11 to 1.5.13, or does the upgrade disregard that patch and you just install th new SEF patch for the latest version Of Joomla you have just installed?

    • The simple answer is to apply the sef patch to the upgrade incremenet from 1.5.11 to 1.5.13 and then apply those files to your installation.

    • Sorry Brian, I'm not quite following you. How do you install your patches and upgrades?

I use my file manager in Cpanel.I I upload the zipped files and extract them in the main directory, this is both for the patch and upgrades.I have just upgraded the site from 1.5.12 to 13. However that did not have a patch on it to begin with. Are you saying that I can use the 12 patch on the 13? there isn't a patch for 13 available at the moment.

So I'm going to upgrade a 1.5.11 to 13. Should I just install both the patch (1.5.12) and upgrade and extract them both?

    • Yeah install 1.5.11 to 1.5.13 and then install the sef patch for 1.5.12. I have checked it to make sure there was no file changes that affect sef patch for 1.5.12.

    • I am busy upgrading a few websites at the moment, however none of them have the SEF patch installed. So far so good.just being cautious, I assume that an updated patch overwrites the older patch?so even though I have 1.5.11 patch installs, I can just put a patch for 12 straight over the top? Suppose it works exactly the same way as the Joomla upgrade?

Yeah as long as you are applying the sef patch for 1.5.12 on top of the update from joomla 1.5.11 to 1.5.13, all should be well.

As well as this, I have attached a zip file to this post, it has two patches one with the media manager and one with tinymce, just extract it. They are fixes which are post 1.5.13
