    • I have an African Grey Parrot - and they are truly amazing. I wish she would do stuff for video because she would just blow everyone away. When she was a baby and I was handfeeding her and her brothers - they were already talking well before weaned. At almost 3 - she can imitate everyone - dogs, all the birds, all the humans and all the electronic sounds. She is now creating her own almost whistle-like songs. She can calm my screaming umbrella cockatoo by doing my part of the conversation. She responds appropriately to conversation - no tricks. The teen girls who work for me are totally amazed. She has been working on playing catch like my U2 does. And she talks about my teenage son, Michael, all day long - but if I ask her if she is Michael's girlfriend - she says "Oh Stop!"

Each species has their own unique qualities - my CAG is the most verbal and the brains, my U2 is the mechanic, my Ringnecks are the alarm systems, the conures are the party animals and class clowns, the tiels are my joy, and my lovebirds - well lovebird is a misnomer -more like pitbulls in feathers. And the budgies - well they are also brilliant.

Anyway - Jasmine (my CAG) watches Animal Planet sometimes with me - and we saw Einstein. We loved that bird! Of course my 15 year old son saw the possibility of teaching her sound effects - and sometimes that can be a bit embarrassing ;)

Here are a couple of other favorites in my flock from Animal Planet:

Oh - btw - can you tell I love birds :D

    • We have an African Grey and a Sun Conure. The African Grey is a chronic feather picker and is pretty nude most of the time. The things he says are absolutely amazing and the speed in which he picks it up, unbelievable. The interesting thing is that while we have had him for years he says everybody's name in the house except my oldest son Jason. He calls the dogs, the guinea pig, the sun conure, all the family members including my grandson but he won't say "Jason". He says plenty of "J" words but never Jason. :D

    • Gerald - that is so funny that your CAG won't say one son's name. My Umbrella Cockatoo would say my son's best friend's name - Matt and just gush as she said it. But has never said my son's name, Michael - both M's. And my CAG never stops saying Michael. I always refer to myself as Mommy - but she will only say call me "Ellen." And my cherry headed conure and CAG are the same. But it is better - one of my blue crown conures calls me Edward ??? She's one of my many rescues and I have no idea who Edward is - but she is fond of saying the name. I pretty much answer to anything anyway.

So many bird lovers here. I used to run a huge parrot message board. I now run a small private one that I will be updating soon. Maybe some of the parrot lovers here might want to join in to talk about the joys and trials of sharing your lives with these feathered wonders when I start invites again.
