Help! Lost: Is there a sitemap feature in RT's templates?
Posted 15 years 8 months ago
Hi All~
Firstly let me say I'm new to website anything: design, administration, &tc., which is how I arrived here @ Rocket Theme's lovely space. I'm literally an infant in this overwhelming process, so please forgive my gross ignorance regarding, well, nearly everything. The more I delve, the more I realise I'm grossly unfamiliar with even the basics ~ the speak, the language & pretty much everything else associated with this process. In short, I've just begun & am already moving closer to the proverbial ledge ~ it feels overwhelming.
Situation: Am working for a non-profit as a volunteer & have been put in charge of the company's website re-design. After researching many sites offering a myriad of services, discovered Rocket Theme. After perusing templates, we like "Nexus" & agree it would be a good choice, but I can't seem to find a site-map in the listed features. Is a sitemap simply a "given" feature & am so new I simply don't know this, or would this be something I'll need to get from say, Google sitemap generator & apply to my site? If so, should I make certain this is in place before tackling the content editing?
Frankly, am feeling more than a little lost in {Rocket Theme} space ~ kind of like having that dream where the emperor is wearing no clothing & the emperor is me. Try & remember back in the day when you knew nothing & take pity on me before you laugh. I tried uploading the template to my (personal server) last night (using the great RT tutorial) & ran into so many problems, I never managed to download the template to check it out just to see how long the learning curve on this will take. Will be attempting to do this at work today & after no success at home, I'm feeling more than inept.

You can find some info here
www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=15&t=63805&rb_v=viewtopic
on configuring xmap site map to be rewritten as sitemap.xml (for submitting to ask.com etc) and adding a command to the robots.txt file so spiders pick up the sitemap when crawling your site.
