    • Does anybody know how to set up permissions for individual rooms with this component? As far as I can tell, this feature is nowhere to be found. I don't know if I'm blind or if this component is lacking a basic administrative option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Are you using Joomla Ajax Chat 1.0.1 or Ajax Powered JChat? Both are found on Joomla.org/extensions.

Hi Lisa (and son!) & Glenn,

Although I don't use this component, it does seem to be missing that feature - unless you access it through Community Builder. I haven't been using CB on my sites due to software conflicts with the components and modules that I'm using. However, CB seems to be addressing many issues with their recent releases. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful.

Avatar: Thanks for the kind compliment, Lisa. That image is a creation of Yves using an earlier photo of mine. I do plan to switch it out in the next day or two. :)

    • Thanks. I'll see if I can resolve it. It seems strange that they wouldn't include this feature. All of the admin features seem to be just bells and whistles.

      EDIT:

I actually just got an email from Gabe over at Fiji Software, the creators of AjaxChat. He said he should have room permissions designed and integrated within the week. However, he did ask me for input on how I would like to see the permissions work. So either he's not as far along as he's claiming, or the feature isn't so difficult to add -- which leads me to wonder why it's taken so long to finally be added.

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic :-\

      Hi Glenn,

Most of the Joomla (Mambo) developers that I've dealt with over the years have jobs as their main gig or are in school. Developing for Joomla is something that most do on the side. They seem to be limited on time. However, it is frustrating when someone offers a deadline or time frame and consistently misses it. Maybe Gage will come through for you.

      Thanks for the update.

Understandable, but I did pay for this component, so I'm holding him a little more responsible than I would a developer of a free component.

Yes, you are correct there. If you pay, you should expect service. You're in a biz that appreciates and makes it's living by service. Sad to say that many programmers could work on that skill - or hire others to handle that for them. Hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction. Keep us posted on your progress, Glenn.
