    • We're working from DVD because that's the way to get it to our volunteer, and burning a DVD is pretty quick for our video guys who have limited time to get the video edited and off to TV. I may be able to get them to copy to a portable hard drive or two that we run back and forth. That may work.

I'll also try the other DVD program and see if that works for us.

    • I use Sorensen Squeeze all the time with Apple's Final Cut Pro.

I capture my footage with FCP, edit in FCP, export with no QT compression and make FLVs or SWFs in Sorensen Squeeze.

Can they just burn the DV onto a DVD as opposed to the mpeg-2 dvd format? You can burn any data you like to a dvd. Transporting Video is a major issue. Portable drives are handy for this which reminds me to bug my Business manager to find out where the one I ordered is. Should have gotten that DVD burner on the computer at work. For now, I have been schlepping the Digicam home to work the files.

Some boys have all the toys! I use FCE then run the video through Flash to make .swf Are there any big advantages to using Sorensen Squeeze as opposed to Flash?

    • I assume that you are referring to Flash 8 Pro? If you have Flash 8 Pro, you can import video and make a SWF. That works pretty well. Sorenson Squeeze offers a little more parameters to adjust but the Flash 8 Pro is good for embeding video. Flash 8 Pro offers a stand-alone video encoder to make FLV files too. I use Flash 8 Pro at work.

Yes, I use Flash 8 Pro, and yes, I have been using it to import video and make swf. No need for Sorensen Squeeze then.

      Thanks,

The freebie from squared5.com is an awesome little utility. While it is free, it does require the mpeg-2 QT extension which costs $20.

Looks like it doesn't require it if you use the Quicktime alternative, which is free.

Giving it a shot right now. I can always reinstall QTPro if it doesn't work out.

    • Guys,

I thought some of you would like to know how this all ended. I really appreciate all the tremendous help I got in here.

On my website, www.wesley-umc.com , we were looking for a video format to standardize on for our podcast and media page, and the programs that are best to make the videos from DVD. We used a couple of programs that weren't working out well for us.

As it turns out, MPEG Streamclip is an AMAZING program for free. It will rip our DVD and encode in one step, and it creates a perfect MP4 file for our podcast. By the way, we're using Loudblog in a wrapper, which works really well for us. You can see it by going to the ministries menu or following one of several links on the homepage. MP4 also works great for iTunes and all those with Video iPods, etc.

I added a few instruction pages for those who need help installing the plugin (on the left module menu). Didn't feel I needed to explain to Mac users, because most of them have Quicktime built-in.

We're also using Riva FLV Encoder to create a FLV file of the most recent sermon for the front page. The AllVideos mambot makes it simple to put into a module. This gives an alternative video format for the most recent offering. And since my company (which employs half the church) blocks all streaming video except Flash, people at work may be able to watch occasionally.

Again, thanks to all who pitched in here. I learned a lot and couldn't have done it without you!
