section title not hiding!

  • section title not hiding!

    • For some reason I cannot get the titles of pages that that i made in the section manager to hide. I know there is no option on the page where I made the content, so you have to set it to hide from the menu item. However, it is not hiding it when I set section title to hide. I recently moved my site from a windows server to a linux server so I could use the htaccess file to fix the domain.com vs www.domain.com problem and also so I could more easily set up artio SEF. I used joomla cloner to move the site. Could something have not transfered correctly in the SQL database to cause this problem? Any suggestions welcome. I am going to try setting up a page from the category manager and see if it has the problem also. The hide title is working properly from pages made in the content manager section.

Thank you for any advice you can offer to try and solve this problem,

    • There is a setting on the page where you create the content item.

On the right hand side, there are several options under a tabbed menu. Choose the parameters tab and the third option down should be what you are looking for.

      ***On edit:

I think I misunderstood you. You are talking about the description created for the section itself, not individual content items.

That I am not so sure about, as I tend not to place anything there, and instead create a content item (or static content item) to serve that purpose, as it gives me greater control over what goes on there.

    • Correct. I know about the settings with content items, my problem is that before I could get section titles to hide from the option on the menu item, and now I cannot. I tried it with categories, and although there is no good way to link a category item to a menu item, as there is only blog style or table, it did hide when I chose hide page title from the menu item I created as table - content category. So the question is, why don't section titles work anymore? I have decided to go ahead like you said and create all of the pages as content items, but what worries me is that something transfered over incorrectly in the SQL database, so what other problems could it cause or what other items could have transfered incorrectly? If anyone knows where I would look in the database to find what causes section titles to show or hide, please let me know.

      Thanks,

    • Ok, I did a little more digging (actually got off my duff and created a link to a section), and this is what I found:

When you create a menu item that links to an entire section (or edit such a menu item), there is an option (right hand side, parameters) to hide the title. So, it is in the menu item itself, not the section item where you can do this.

I also looked at the DB, just for fun, and the structure of the sections and content items are sufficiently different that I would be really surprised if this could also be done via a db hack of the section entries, but someone else might know better than I.

I checked this on 1.0.12, so if you happen to have a different version, YMMV.

I know that you have to do it from the menu item..what I was saying is for some reason, when I set section title to hide, from inside the menu item parameters tab, it doesn't do anything, section title is still showing. So I think maybe the database spot that tells that radio button to turn on and off the section title is incorrect in my database. So say, if that radio button is supposed to make the cell a 1 or 0, mine is 1 either way:( Just haven't been able to find the spot in the database that connects with this.

      Thank you,

P.S. Thank you for the quick replies though:)

    • Sorry about that. I did not re-read your original post, and obviously forgot that you had said that.

Have you tried creating a brand new menu item?

If the new menu item works, then something in the old menu items is broken, and you can do a compare and contrast in the DB between them to see what is different. If the new menu item is also broken, then there is something up with your install of Joomla!.

At this point, though, I would be suspicious of JoomlaCloner. I've picked up and moved several Joomla! sites, and I've always done it manually, with no problems at all.

What version of Joomla! are you running, and what version of JoomlaCloner?

    • I am using joomla 1.012. Version 1.9.0 of cloner. I did move the files over manually through the ftp, however I had to use cloner for the database. I tried exporting my database, then importing it onto my new site...figured it should go smooth since both have the same versions. I did not switch hosts, stayed with the same host and just switched fromtheir windows server accounts to their linux server accounts. Anyways, I tried to do it with all of the default settings that it already had checked or unchecked, then tried to upload, and it did nothing..just took me back to the import page, no errors or anything. I had to tell it to do it in compatibility mode of MySQL 4.0. That worked, but it was missing 2 tables. I had 204 tables in my database, but only 202 transfered. Anyways, I found the 2 and moved them over manually, then manually fixed the problem it causes on those 2 tables. What it did was not set auto-incremental. I had the box checked, but it didn't assign it to the tables...Even tried exporting and unchecking the box since it was checked by default, still a no go. I suppose next time I'll just have to move it manually, and grin and bear having to set auto-incremental on each of the 204 tables one at a time:(lol

      Thanks,
