    Home Server Setups

Posted 18 years 3 weeks ago
    • I thought i'd start a topic on home servers, and see what everyone has :D
      Coz I love servers! :o

My domain controller has a amd athlon 64 3800+, with 4GB memory, and 1TB hard disk. It also has 256MB graphics and Gigabyte ethernet.

My second server has an amd sempron 3000+, with 2GB memory, and a 500GB hard disk. It also has a 64MB graphics and Gigabyte ethernet.

My whole network runs on Gigabyte CAT6 cables with wireless router in the middle

Also has ISA 2006 protecting, remote desktop access, and I am going to set up exchange in the next fortnight

I have scheduled backups from file server (crap one) to domain controller, so that if either fail I still have all the important stuff :D

You could like say it's overkill, but I plan to get Server 2007 this year, which needs the stats for the DC, as for the file server perhaps I might upgrade and install server 2007, but there's not many benefits

So, any of you guys have some cool rigs?

    • Yay! I'm not the biggest geek in here!

      I don't have a server per-se. Just a slew of desktops and notebooks. (4 desktops/3 notebooks).

But.... I do have one of them Virtualized. I love VMWare's VI3. I haven't gotten around to it YET, but I have an old AX100i lying around that I need to put procs in. After that, I can try out VI3's VMotion and stuff.

Let me tell ya. I get paid to sell more hardware, but VMWare is the coolest stuff I've played with in a while.

    • I would say I'm going to play with Longhorn this weekend but the new RT template is being released so that will be my focus.

7 computers puts you near the top of the list. ;D

I dumped my home development server(s) in favor of live hosting. I bought me super cheapie hosting, 2Tb storage and 2Tb bandwidth per month, 1 full year $25.00. I use it for my dev work and then move those over to my 'good" host after they are ready. It just seems to work out better for me. Lot faster than uploading from my cable connection. Shell access is great, make for real fast downloads and transfers.
