SEF Experts - Joomla 1.x - 1.5x upgrade and preserving links

I have a question for the SEF/SEO experts and know hows. I have a Joomla 1.x site I am migrating to 1.5. I usedt JPromote, which is a SEF component for 1.x. It actually worked really well. Unfortunately, they did not make a version for 1.5. So I tried the stock SEF as well as Artio JoomSEF, and the url's are not the same, not even close.
For example, a Joomla 1.x SEF category blog url is: website.com/section/category.html
And the same link on 1.5 the url with Artio is :http://website.com/category/blog
I cant even get the urls close tweaking the options in Artio.
The big question is how to preserve and redirect my existing links, as to not get dinged by the SE's. My first guess is some kind of fancy .htaccess redirect statement or set of statements. Any other options or suggestions are appreciated.

Yes sh404 will do this since you can list them as aliases.
Other than that, you'll have to write 301 redirects in your htaccess. - My Sites:
