mp4 not displaying

hi,
i am using the most recent version of rokbox (ive used it for a long time from previous versions). i am trying to display a video in the rokbox pop up from my server. i am able to get any youtube or vimeo video to display no problem, however i am trying to get an mp4 to load from my server via the url & it the player will attempt to load & then remain a small black square. whats weird is that i can hear the video playing so i know it is loading it but the player will not display it. if i change the file type from mp4 to m4v it will show just fine. i would use this however then the problem becomes that it will not load on other devices such as iphone etc.... so i would like to be able to display the mp4. the extension does claim to support it so can you assist in a resolution?
