All was working well until I checked on the site to add a new set of photos.
in admin tool when i go to RokGallery I get this error
RokGallery: The PHP MySQL PDO driver is needed but not installed.
My site no longer shows photo gallery.
this week i believe Joomla upgraded but that is about it.

I checked previous posts, i do not have an old version of PHP and the driver was there, and I am unsure if the latest Joomla upgrade did this or not..

You problem is that PDO is not installed (or not installed correctly) on your server (nothing to do with Joomla update) - So perhaps your host updated your PHP settings. Check you PDO settings:
PHP support for the SQLite PDO driver
PHP support for the MySQL PDO driver
MySQL (5.0.4 or higher) with InnoDB support
PHP support for PDO
PHP support for GD2
