    Switching templates and Google

Posted 14 years 11 months ago
    • I was wondering...

When switching templates, would I lose Google placement because of the change in code?
Also, would the articles have the same link address or would it change?

I'm having a hard time everytime I try a local template switch because none of my menus appear, and everything is misplaced or not showing, so I guess I would have to rebuild those and they might end up a bit different than the previous ones...

Tempted to try a Gantry on my site ( www.highway11.net ) but I am afraid of the work load involved...
and losing the ground I started to get with Google over other sites.

      Thanks for any helping inputs!

    • While we can not guanrantee anything related to Google or any search engines placement of your site, article references (URL's) should stay the same.

Please clarify, are you referring to your localhost testing site?

    • Thanks for the info.
I was not looking for guarantee about Google from RT, I know that's not possible, but whether if anyone knew about changing templates and if it affected placement in Google.

yes, I have a copy of my site on a localhost so I can experiment with new extensions before putting them on my live site.

So, I also try out another template on my localhost. Of course, all is messed up and I need to re-assign all my modules to the new module positions.

Now, I see the menu options are all packed together and red! where did that come from! ha ha! I foresee many hours of trying to find where that comes from ... firebug doesn't give me a clue in this instance...
