SEF with Meridian Search - Can't use URL suffix

I have successfully configured Joomla to use SEF URL's and mod_rewrite with the Meridian template. If I enable the URL suffix, navigation still works but Meridian's built in search feature breaks. Is there a way to use the URL suffix with Meridian so that search works?
