Re: IMPORTANT: RT Joomla Templates and 3rd Party Extensions

I really like the 3rd party compatibility styling integrated with the templates now and am perfectly happy with the current policy to only focus on basic CSS. K2 is especially helpful.
This makes every template an attractive choice and helps jump-start my development process.
I don't like the idea of this being removed. If removed, please consider a paid add-on option for those of us that would like 3rd Party Extension Support with our Template subscription/entitlements. Thanks!

Let me ask this, and I get the feeling I'll be flamed/lynched.
People are mentioning making a 'paid' option that would work to accommodate 3rd party extentions. Would it be more of a pain to maintain two templates one that is the base, normal, functionally and tested tempalte without consideration to 3rd party extensions, and a second that was tested and made to work with 3rd party extensions?
It would seem that developer level member ship could be party to the 3rd party tested tempaltes. Also, it may be a selling point for the developer level membership above just the developer forums.

I voted second option as most have so far.
Id much prefer properly maintained theming for third party extensions that could be mixed and matched up to any template without conflict. I sometimes find it extremely limiting finding a template from a much reduced selection if a site has certain extensions that need individual styling
Possibly even something like the phpbb club, how about offshoots for a single extension, like a jomsocial club, or a k2 or mosets club, or group a number of extensions into zones, like social or blogging. Then perhaps have a rolling release schedule like the phpbb club where you could have matching stand alone themes to the more successful joomla template rleases, useable in their own right whether matching the main theme or not.
Case in point, jomsocial, its templating must be a real ballache for RT to maintain and must eat into efforts for the rest of the template. I dont mind so much if it has a matching theme to the main site, I would happily settle for something complimentary to the overall theme as long as I can at least get rid of having to use the default rubbish JS uses.
Id further like to suggest some backward compatability in the downloads for some themes, many extensions allow continued use of certain versions after a subscription has ended, it would be nice to see some support for backwards compatability left in the downloads area.

By doing this way,
God damn so many more programmers and themers they will need to employ. Just look at Jomsocial, it's a mess.

How is that insufficient?
Option 1 is the way it currently is, whereas option 2 is the way it was...
Would you prefer if people just built your site for you?
PieHole. When your an outfit that produces templates, and you want to get into supporting high level template functionality, which requires specific extensions like K2 and Tienda, it has nothing to do with building a site for you, but offering the superior service that is advertised, which RT does.
Regardless of template, building an entire site with complex functionality is way different than having a supplied template that supports an extension. get a grip.

I appologize for reviving an old post but I was directed here from another question elsewhere -
Just wanted to give you guys an idea / suggestion - why not incorporate some kind of a universal theme-ing system into the already-awesome Gantry that 3rd-party producers could start to develop into their products? If you could get the beasts like K2, Kunena, Tienda and Jomsocial to work Gantry supported themeing and standards in - we'd have one hell of a rounded-out system and no doubt it would be huge for RocketTheme!
It's just an idea I have no idea how it would be implemented - maybe I'm just dreamin'

Let me confess I've been a bit of a RocketTheme fanboy in the past, eagerly pressing "refresh" often at the start of the month and happily recommending the club to others. I've been a member since doing my first Joomla sites in 2008. It has saved me lots of time and made the impossible possible for me, as I'm not a full time designer or coder, nor do I want to learn to be. I've got other stuff to do.
The problem I'm now having is that I'm developing sites for people who need more than Joomla offers out of the box. I find K2 particularly useful for getting content organised well and presented in ways which make sense to readers, and "does it look good with K2?" is pretty much the base level question for me when assessing a new template.
RocketTheme's value to me is in providing stuff which works well fairly quickly, without me having to spend weeks writing new style sheets and the like. Without K2 styling, a template isn't that useful for me.
While I can see effort is needed for developing for other content management systems, that's of no interest to me as I don't use them. I realise you need to do what's needed for your business, so good luck with the new direction. I'm one customer who is now thinking this is the end of our walk together.
Bottom line - other clubs are developing for people like me, and RocketTheme has stopped. If you can get back on track, I'll renew, otherwise thanks for the good stuff from the past, and goodbye!

I have to be honest, while I love RT, and will continue to maintain my subscription, in the last month I have also joined 2 other clubs. This months RT theme is particularly underwhelming, and would require a LOT of customization to dress up for any projects I have going on right now. I won't go into more detail so as to not fully hijack this thread (my point has more to do with design rather than extension support), but I'm just bummed that I'm having to branch out into other theme clubs to get designs that are more usable for me and my clients. Hopefully next month will be better.
Edit: now that I look at Modulus more, I realize that this is what many people have been asking for-a more plain template. I think it's the color choices and ugly gradients that jump out at me. I'd really have to mess with the fireworks file to get something better looking out of it.
