    • No, because the URLs are all relative anyway.

It has everything to do with the ItemID...you will note that the URL the link is *supposed* to point at (as specifiied in the administrator) uses a different ItemID to the one that actually appears on the site.

    • Should I re-install joomla and try again?

    • I'd be tempted to do a fresh install into a subfolder, install the template, then create a few test menu items to see what happens. Don't install or enable SEF. Just test it out-of-the-box.

    • Ok. I'll try that and report back.

    • Made a test folder and the split menu seems to work fine...
      If you go here: 67.15.157.129/test/index.php?option=com_weblinks&Itemid=23

However, if I enable sef, then clicking any item on the test folder site sends me to the root folder site!!! Why is this happening?

Is this a server side problem? I'm confused....

Split menu doesn't work with sef on or off in the root joomla install.

    • It shouldn't matter that the site is on a develpment URL and that the main DNS for the account isn't pointing to it, should it?

I'm grasping at straws... I'll copy over the root level Joomla files and see what happens.

    • Aha! I just got this message from hosting support:
      Hello Aaron,

In the server URL there is the following sign: ~

The Joomla SEF feature removes the following sign and the following account username.

      Instead of:

      67.15.157.129/~afar/content/view/12/31/

      the URL is changed to:

      67.15.157.129/content/view/12/31/

The last one will not work since it refers only to the shared server IP.

This is why you can not use SEF with
      67.15.157.129/~afar/ .

You can use it only with a real domain name.

    • UPDATE,

I deleted all the menu items, cleared the trash of everything, and now it seems to work.

    • strange. i would have thought if you put 67.15.157.129/~afar/ as you mosConfig_liveSite in configuration.php, it should work. SEF should only modify the stuff after 'far/'
