    • :arrowu: A little harsh...

      Please see #14

      www.rockettheme.com/legal/terms.php ?

We are here to support the templates; support is really supposed to start after you have successfully installed the template, and questions should be template related.

We can't support every install related issue...

Although 25-35% of the questions we answer are not template related, they are replied to as a courtesy because one of us has faced similar issues and has a solution.

Prim and Dan have tried to help, but if you are having problems with XAMMP, then that is where you should be looking for support, as well as joomla.org...

You could do more troubleshooting by trying to install a stock install of Joomla and see what errors you receive. or using Akeeba to back up the site from the old computer and install it on the new one. (Dan has already mentioned some template dont like 5.3.3)

    • Hi Moses
I didn't mean to slough you off. It's just that I didn't feel that this is something broken with your Rockettheme template. Rockettheme isn't supporting 1.6 as it just came out of beta into a release candidate but still a long way away from a stable version, at which point it will be vigorously supported by Rockettheme.

Also, even if this was 1.5, I have seen this error before and those cases turned about to be a conflict between the Joomla core coding and a newer PHP version. Right now my XAMPP 5.3.3 has some issues with the Joomla core and they are not of enough significance to prevent me from developing on this platform.

In both cases mentioned above, this has nothing to do with our Rockettheme templates.
Again if this problem was happening to me, I would be on Google and the Joomla forums trying to track it down.

As I also run Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, the other option you might try is -> WampServer64

    • Hello JEM an Dan,

I did not mean to be harsh, but to protect myself and my investment from what I considered an unfair/incomplete/slack response. I think it is a "cascade effect" issue. If I can't install XAMPP/Joomla onj my computer, there is no point in using Rockettheme templates in my Windows 7 64-bit, that's why I said what I said above about thinking in cancelling my membership/getting a refund.

I also personally think that RocketTheme support should be ready to help its paid members to handle new technologies and versions, since this is pretty much the "water you swim" daily, and the foundation for your products & services.. I think that if you were more helpful, detailed oriented and use a more skilful way of communication (appropriate expert-to-non-expert) language, this could be a "win-win" situation for everybody, because as much as you could help your members with the basics (speaking or matching their own language of "non experts"), more clients you should have in the long run, mouth to mouth free referrals, more profits, etc...

I do know that there is a big gap between your reality and mine (and many other members here) in terms of knowledge of XAMPP/JOOMLA. However, I would appreciate if you could be more clear and less concise in your explanations. If this service was free, then I would understand. But it is a paid service, and it is not cheap.. And please don't come with "legal terms of agreement talk". Very few people read it, and I think the MOST IMPORTANT is for the costumer to be helped adequately, and being able to use the product/service they purchase.

For example of what I mentioned about my impression of you not speaking "non expert" language, although I am more tech savvy then many people I know, I still can't understand this phrase:
"You could do more troubleshooting by trying to install a stock install of Joomla and see what errors you receive. or using Akeeba to back up the site from the old computer and install it on the new one. (Dan has already mentioned some template dont like 5.3.3)"

      Questions:
      What is "stock install?
      What is "5.3.3"?
What do you mean by "back up the site from the old computer"?
I copied the folder of my website to the folder htdocs under XAMPP in my new computer. Isn't that enough?)

Thanks for your reply anyway! I appreciate the quickness of your responses, especially on Sunday! Please take in consideration that th main reason of my straightforward speech is due to a tight deadline I have to reach in terms of actually being able to use your template in my computer as I initially planned..

    • As I mentioned, many many of the posts we answer are not template related, JomSocial, VM, CB, Akeeba, various form components, galleries, questions about XAMMP, etc, etc.

I really can’t help you on this one because I am still running XAMMP using XP on my computers, so in this case, it’s not the water I swim in.

The template works and by now has been installed thousands of times successfully on prior versions of XAMMP and many different servers.

You still have the option to develop on a computer with an older version of XAMMP if that is in fact the issue, on in a sub folder on your server.

A stock install is a copy of the latest version of Joomla from joomla.org.

5.3.3 is the php version number that is running on your localhost or server. Sometimes, using a stock install helps identify if there is a problem with the template, i.e., stock install works fine, Rocket Launcher doesn’t. Which usually points us in the direction of php versions, php4, vs. php5.2.x vs. 5.3.3. Currently RT template are built to operate on php5.2.x, not version 4, or AFAIK, 5.3.3.

If you were developing the site on another computer and wanted to continue developing on another computer, as Prim mentioned, use Akeeba to back up the site. Akeeba creates a backup of your entire site and the database and creates an installer. Copying just the files and folders is not enough unless you also manually export a copy of the database, create a new DB on the new computer, import it, and (if necessary) change the configuration.php, etc.

    • Thanks Jem, I am left "frustrated" with as few options. Maybe it's time to leave RocketTheme (one of the most cutting edges templates I know) or go back to Windows XP (a version of Windows that is several years old) Sounds like a paradox ridle to me, but "it is, what it is":..

    • There no way to get a 64bit version running with php 5.2.x instead of 5.3.x?

Seem if possible that would be the simplest solution.

I'm just an end user of XAMPP, so I really can't offer advice there.

I've not use Window 7, but I can at least say this, I have yet to a difference in performance running XAMMP on XP with 1.0, 1.6, 2.4, 3.2GHz processors and any where from 512MB to 2GB memory.

The OS doesn't run the template, XAMMP does and it is not resource intensive, so if you did develop on XP, I don't think you'd see a difference.

Whatever you decide, best of luck.

    • Hi Moses
As I said I run Windows 7 64 bit. I ran Wampserver 64bit which I liked the GUI but it had to many PHP errors with Joomla 1.5.
So I went to XAMPP 32 bit which had a lot less errors with Joomla 1.5 and no noticeable difference in performance speed.

    • It is a XAMPP problem, it has not been released for 64 bit systems, tho I found a solution posted there; going to give it a shot and see if it works on win 7 ultimate; here is the full post I found there
Re: Finally: New XAMPP 1.7.4 for Windows, Linux and Solaris

For those having this problem, apparently it is something with the exe Windows installer. Possibly it needs to be run as adminstrator; I didn't try that. I am on Windows 7 and kind of think the same may apply if you have the problem on Vista.

The solution I found is over on a German language posting, and is straightforward - so much so that they're rather short in saying what it is, which could pass you by. Hence I will explicate a little further. Aber, vielen Dank...

-- I would begin this process by being sure you're logged in as an Adminstrative user, which is also the user who will operate Xampp. Otherwise there may be trouble later with who owns and can run or access various things. Change your permissions for the install if you run Normal user permissions normally as a security measure.

-- Instead of downloading the installer, download the zip file. Unzip it where you want the xampp folder.

-- then open a command window, I suggest as administrator. Do this by bringing up the Start Menu, then typing command in the blank. In a moment, you'll see a program entry for Command Prompt (don't use any for 'command'). Right-mouse this, and select Run as Administrator, even though (and because) you are one.

-- using the command window, like a DOS window, navigate to the xampp directory you set up.

-- type setup_xampp and return, which will run the bat file by that name.

-- in a few seconds, the script will announce Xampp is ready to go.

-- from here, you can run the Xammp Control Panel normally from a Windows shortcut, etc.. It won't give the warnings, and it will allow you to start and stop server and database, etc..

-- At present and noted elsewhere, Admin for the database doesn't operate. Instead use the Admin button for the server, and click myPhpAdmin from the left-hand menu.

      Hope useful to others.

      Sehr schön, Oswald. Besten Dank.

      Regards,
      Clivenarrapf

    • Guys

I did get the same error, "strict yadda yadda" error messages. No matter how I install Xampp on two different computers, using the same Akeeba backup copy. No matter how I skin the cat, edit the config files and MYSQL, the "strict" error is the same every time.

I used latest version of Xampp 1.7.4 with latest version of Akeeba.

I googled for this error and found that the Xampp is simply too new for Joomla with RT templates. I guess I am off to experiment with Pancesa theme using RocketLauncher on Xampp 1.7.4.

So, I tried Xampp 1.7.3 and it works. It must be more of Xampp issue rather than RT and Akeeba.

      Im stumped just like Moses.
