Why the long delay in sending PM via phpBB3?

I have been trying to communicate with another member but my messages just sit in the Outbound Box for hours. I was told that is is just the way phpBB3 works. Really :shock:
Is this a setting? I am waiting hours for message to be sent. I was going to use phpBB3 for my site but this seems to be a strange behavior and would not want that on my site.

Hi Barry,
My understanding is that is stays in your Outbox until the other person opens it. You have piqued my curiosity now so I will probably go check the phpBB site :cheesy:

It sits in outbox until they actually open it. Once the other member opens the PM it is removed from outbox. It has nothing to do with a delay of any sort in sending. It is just the other person on the receiving end that is not opening the PM. The other thing is that these PM's are also sent by email, so you do not have to actually open them to read them, you can just see them in your email.
