Magento Club GPL Template

    • The Magento Section now shows Quasar as the first FREE GPL Template for Magento, but when you click on the link it goes to the new member subscription screen ...

I would love to try out a RT Template before committing to a Magento Subscription... is this an error or do you have to join to get the "Free Template"

    • There is a free GPL version of the template and a full version of the template with all extensions included and the free version is still being worked on.

We wanted to release the full version as soon as possible instead of making everyone wait. Can't say for sure when it'll be out, but soon.

      Sorry for the confusion.

    • Is this still the case? Has this been officially released? I came to the conclusion that this was free to subscription members. Basically if you had a 1 time exemption that you'd be able to download one other premium template AND this premium template. Is that the plan or is it simply a stripped down version?

    • The text on the article says:
Quasar is the first Free / GPL template released by RocketTheme for Magento.

Other GPL templates (Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress) are free to anyone to download - the Magento article has been posted for many weeks and yet the template is still not available for download.

    • Hi Ben,

I am also in the dark about this 'GPL' template, and have tried to download it in order to evaluate adding a Magento subscription to my existing Joomla Dev one. I am really trying to do so to see how long it would take to retheme a template to a client brief using this as a base vs blank and see how well the rokmage modules work, and what time they would save.

Could someone advise if the download link is in error, and if not clarify the difference between versions and when the free version will be available ? If there are significant differences in versions, is Quasar not going to be a good platform for evaluating the magento templates ?

      Regards,

      Miz

    • The template is being worked on and is taking longer because it's different than the members area one. The GPL one does not contain the RokMage modules/extensions. The GPL version is styling for core Magento stuff.

Not sure on an exact release, but it will be free to download. Should be any day now.

    • Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay with this, just about had it done and then Magento released an update (1.5.1) so need to update to that now before releasing, will be out in the next couple days for sure.

As Ben said, it'll be a different version for the free release (not including the RokMage extensions) but there will be one new extension I'm working on included, to give an idea of how we do things in the admin etc, so hold tight!

    • Thanks Sam,

I have installed the Quasar Template on my localhost, within WAMP - had a few issues getting the Magento install to complete, but was successful.

I found your tutorials helpful, although the screen images are not very clear, making it hard to see/read what you were actually doing! Could be my tired eyes after reading postings on the Magento forums for hours. (if only posts would indicate which version was being discussed... many posts are out of date and no longer applicable)

I will play with this a bit longer, but so far I am very impressed - I uploaded the upgrade to 1.5.1.0 and have not noticed any issues so far - it contains a lot of fixes that seemed critical to a live site.

One concern I have had with the Magento "Community" version is the number of "fixes" and frequent updates. Is it really stable and ready for use in the real world? Some of the recent fixes deal with critical issues.

Thanks for all your hard work - this and the demo templates are very professional looking. It might be a good idea to post some links to sites using the RT Templates to help to promote membership in the Magento Club. :D
