Joomla 1.6 or stay with 1.5x?

I am currently looking for a suitable template for a client and am thinking that Syndicate is a good fit. The issue is whether to start the job in Joomla 1.6 or stay with 1.5. I have had a look at 1.6 with the associated RT templates and extensions for this but am finding it quite a change. In fact the 1.6 back end still looks quite raw and developing rather than settled. Is this other people's view?
The question is - how long will 1.5xxx be supported and if I start with 1.5, which is much more familiar, how long will it be before I am upgrading the site to 1.6 and even so, how hard will this be?
Any views would be helpful.

I'd wait....
Seems there's no compelling reason to switch since you can do everything in J1.5 that you can do in J1.6 (with some 3rd party components).
Plus the support cycle for J1.6 is short and J1.7 and 1.8 are in the pipes... - Thanks,
