How about a Mambo Template Club

    • I don't think there is a big difference between Mambo and Joomla template system (haven't checked), with the current licensing announcement of Joomla which most likely will result in down fall of and finally end of Joomla, a backup plan Mambo Template Club.

    • I think the statement "most likely will result in down fall of and finally end of Joomla,"
is the authors opinion. One some agree with and others dont.
But I wouldnt pack up my joomla sites any time soon.

    • You mean you didn't see the disheveled homeless guy with walking around the big sign on his front and back that says:

      The end is nigh!
      The Joomlapocalypse cometh!

He was also ringing a little bell too I think.. ;D

    • I didn't draw those ones, I just use an online tool for the images.

I used to draw but ti takes too much time, and I am not as good as I would like to be. :( Thx for the compliment though.

Back on topic though, A Mambo club wouldn't be a bad idea economically, as the templates don't take much work to be made Mambo compatible apparently.

However for Andy to do it might be a bit ..... difficult..... politically. Not sure. His call I guess.

    • Both SMF bridges are gone
VM vendor system add-ons which I use for a music site/store is gone.
Next version of myContent add-on as been put on halt due to the announcement.
Xmedia which I use is gone

Andy according to Mambo guys only a small tweaks are required to make Joomla templates work in Mambo, so why not.

More are probably coming too :(

I doubt highly any of the proprietary devs will re-release as GPL. So you may as well just scratch them all off the list.

Most of the non GPL Free Open source projects are also likely to be affected as many of them won't want to change to GPL either. So scratch them too. :-\

    • I think walking away from joomla is about the worse thing these developers can do. The first thing that comes to mind is that they are shooting themselves in the foot. Joomla is a hugely successful CMS, there are lots and lots of users, so you are just walking away from this market and going where? mambo? please.

Secondly, the worst part about this is they are neglecting their customers and treating them with this kind of disrespect and support is really despicable. I would stay away from people who do business like this.. (jots down a note of projects/developers to steer clear of)

Thirdly, these developers are partly riding the success of joomla to make their businesses viable. I will concede that a portion of joomla's success can be attributed to commercial developers, there's no denying it, but on the other hand, it's the very success of joomla that brought these developers to joomla, and led them to create products for it etc. Joomla itself is developed with thousands of hours of donated time, and walking away from joomla also shows the project a great deal of disrespect, imho.

I was planning on creating a commercial venture selling components, so the discussions and decision regarding the GPL statement had a direct effect on me also, but i'm not going to walk away from my plan, i'm just going to regroup and come up with another solution to the problem. But heh, that's just me.

With these developers leaving, i guess it leaves the playing field open for others...
