How can i optimize a RT Theme for loading times?

I recently joined a new project which used a different framework. Now one of the server admins tells me that the loading times of rockettheme are way to slow for the site. I think i could optimize the loading times but im not sure how to do this.
Can anyone help me and point me to relevant howtos´s or share some tricks? I really like to use RT with this project too but i need to enhance the loading times ...

In general, there are trade-offs between aesthetics, functionality, and speed. I have found that as rocket themes has progressed especially with gantry, they have traded a lot of performance for usability and good looks.
If you need a rocket theme that is blazing fast, Afterburner is the pinnacle of wow.

Look at the older templates for speed, 2009 and back.. look for the newer templates for "aaah" factor.. after 15 second first-time loads. (my general observation). - Behind every great website is more coffee and cigs than you can ever imagine.

I dont know of any others that are specifically performance oriented, but as above, the older templates seem faster than the newer ones. I kinda like versatility4 as well but not sure where it hits the performance chart.
If you want to do some general checks before loading them up. you can try doing the previews then open the template frame in a new window/tab. You can use that url to do the gtmetrix check above as well as clear your cache and use that url to try a clean load time as well as a refresh the page time.
So it would be like.. surf to the template page..
click the demo button
right-click in the template frame and select frame, open in new tab or window (generally..Im in Opera so it will be different per browser.)
Then do your load/performance testing from that "clean" url. - Behind every great website is more coffee and cigs than you can ever imagine.
