SOLVED Joomla ReDirect causes me wonder
Posted 13 years 1 week ago
I understand the concept of a 'redirect' pluggin, however do not understand why the one on my site fills up, overnight with 200 entries (ten pages of 20) 'inactive' URLs..
Is it 'ok' to run with the plug-in disabled? cause, well, unless i'm actually 'adding' a redirect, it's just a pain in the ... to check through and delete all of them..
What can I do to prevent the list from getting so large, 'automatically'? Thanks..

Thanks!
I only asked here because it comes 'turned on' in the Rocket Launcher, and quickly fills up with 'expired' URLs that must be deleted and such.. I guess I should know more about how Joomla works.. but this appeared to be a question that the folks here knew something about... sorry!

This is the URL to visit:
As far as I understand, that's a core Joomla feature that is supposed to find a best fit url and create a redirect when something is visited with a typo or no longer existing link. I'm guessing that anything could trigger this, maybe even bots, so that is probably why the list fills up quickly. I think the initial intention is that if you have an article at one link, then change your configuration, it'll hopefully find the same article if any links from other sites back to it still exist.
You're definitely safe turning it off and it's probably better served for the site with the regular 404 page for non-existing links instead of creating hundreds of redirects. I'm not an SEO expert, but this is my guess on the subject.
