THEORY: ie6,moomenu 3rd level,fresh install,mature install

  • THEORY: ie6,moomenu 3rd level,fresh install,mature install

    • Here goes,

I see there are lots of posters that are having problems with ie6 and moomenu with a 3rd level menu link (When you hover over level 2, level 3 doesn't show.) I have done some investigation by doing the following:

      1. Moomenu works fine in ie6 when your site is a fresh install (Tested this on my sever using existing site that is about 2 months old, site used 1.0.13 version of joomla)

      2. Moomenu does not work correctly in ie6 when your site is a mature site (i.e. My site with the problem has been around for about a year and has been upgraded from ver 1.0.10, 1.0.11, etc). I order to solver the problem I systematically removed mambots, modules, nothing worked)

Due to this experiment I come to the following conclusion, the moomenu ie6 problem only occurs on mature sites (I don't have a definition of mature yet, Im thinking its pre 1.0.11 that has been upgraded).

I need someone with a mature site, running moomenu, to test this theory as I have run out of mature sites.
If this is the problem I am not sure what to do as I certainly don't want to remove current version of joomla and start again (unless there is an easy way to do that.)

      Can anyone help?

    • Ok, I might just be correct.

      1. I have now created a fresh install of joomla (test site)
      2. The menu works in ie6 (As mentioned above)
      3. Copied data from old site (one with the ie6 not working) and restored data to new install 1.
      4. The menu works in ie6 with my old data.

This restore has its own issues that I am working on. I am making some changes so I can do this without any errors.

    • The main cause of Moomenu failure is javascript conflicts from 3rd party extensions.

    • Just not in my case, unless there is some leftover stuff from a sloppy uninstall (opensef left some files behind). I have now made the changes and have it working on a fresh install with same components as old, same setting as old, same data as old.

What I am going to do now (for my own curiosity) is look for physical file size differences between my two install (I am sure to find several) If I find to many I might just give up and live with creating a fresh install of my website.

    • OK, found the problem for me at least, I now dont need to install a fresh version of joomla:)

I previously made a change to template_ie6.css and rokmoomenu.css in order to increase the width of the drop down menu. I made a mistake in the ie6 file which cause the problem. If you change the width in the ie6 file, you have to make the EXACT same changes in the rokmoomenu.css file, ie if you add 20 to the width in ie6, you need to add 20 to ALL width entries in rokmoomenu.css.

      Hope this helps someone else.
