    Upgrading from "Modulus" to "Fracture"

Posted 12 years 8 months ago
    • Hi,

I want to upgrade the template on http://central-mosque.com/ from "Modulus" to "Fracture". I did set up the site myself but I am in no way an expert at Joomla, is it as simple as installing the template and configuring colours and menu etc?

      Thanks

    • I'm impressed with the straight face Igor :D

Surely it's not as simple as that especially where someone may have done quite a bit of fine tuning of the first template . Combined with the variable RT addon customisation which seems to vary between templates I'd have thought it required a bit more deep thought before just switching your default template from one to the other - especially if someone is thinking of trying this with a production site.

The reason I ask is that I've just done this to a site of mine (well the backup on the local server anyway). It certainly didn't break it except style wise so it needs some fine tuning.

And I just moved from modulus to fresco. Moving to a responsive template sounds to me like a bit more than just tidying up some CSS colours.

    • Well, if you built your site with care and didn't use some bad HTML coding (I've seen lots of bad coded Joomla sites) it is as simple as switching the template and adjusting css. All our templates use common module positions, they all have similar module class suffix, they are all built around the same framework.

    • I'm not sure we actually disagree. Having recently taken a long(er) hard look at a RT template (Fresco) there's a lot to be said for taking the time to understand how RT build their templates. For once I actually did what you guys advise - using the Rocketlauncher to get the demo setup and to work out how the different bits hang together. Heck I've even gone as far a printing out a pile of style sheets. If I wanted a really easy life I'd ask RT to provide a guide for each template explaining where and how the CSS has been done as the CCS is spread far and wide especially when you get a template like Fresco which has a looooooottttt of CSS files. That said I suspect I'll learn more working it out myself.

Personally I'd like to learn how the addons are styled as it doesn't appear the norm for every add on to be style to match every template.

So a weekend spent reading style sheets.......

      Igor,

I haven't used any html code so I will schedule a few days off and then upgrade.

      Thanks
