Why are you are using a Joomla 1.5 template that is 5 years old? In software years that template is ancient! So much has changed in 5 years!
The Joomla 1.5 RocketTheme templates were supported through the end of 2012. www.rockettheme.com/blog/joomla/1327-sup...15-25-and-the-future
As browsers change & PHP changes I would think it would be impossible to maintain a backwards compatibility to allow old templates built for old software to also be compatible with modern software.
Joomla.org only supported Joomla 1.5 through September 2012.
Even if you can get a Joomla 1.5 template to install on php 5.3 if you encounter any problems you will not be able to get any support from Joomla or Rockettheme.
If I were you I would use Joomla 2.5 as it is supported by Joomla & Rockettheme.
