    A Tough Menu question...I think

Posted 17 years 2 months ago
    • I was recently asked if it was possible to 'high light" a certain tab/button in the suckerfish drop down main menu on one of your templates. It can either be the button text or change the background for the button. They want it to "catch the eye" of the viewer. I tried adding <font color =#fb0000> to the Menu item in the menu manager. I did not expect this to work nor did it. Anyone ever do this?I do not consider myself a java scripter but can "hack" a bit if I need to.

      Thanks

    • Ok – This may be my last post. I am a daily reader of the rockettheme forum and after several months, I kind of know who knows what. A few months ago, I hit a point when I recognized a client who really needed a CMS. I researched and researched and researched and finally ended up at Rockettheme.com. This was part of an ignorant stumbling research process that lead me to conclude that many clients truly needs a CMS. (Only if I knew).

During this process, I also looked at joomlashack.com etc etc…. but in the end it was Andy’s insistence on the Avatar photo for the family “feel” that brought me here. As a stupid beginner in CMS, I found ALL my posts ANSWERED. ANSWERED I say. Probably the most important part of my selection process was trying to understand the Support and I made as many tests as I could along the way.

As I started to grow and learn, my posts become “more practical”, and with this, they became UNANSWERED. I know that Andy, James, Jeff, GollumX, and the biker dude can give insight to these posts but they still remain unanswered. To be fair, GollumX and the biker dude are not Rockateers but one thing I do KNOW is that ALL my questions can be answered by Rockateers. I learned this after MANY hours of template Problem solving on my own. I JOINED rocketttheme because I thought I could have SOME shortcut to this part of the learning process. Sorry if I am nieve. At one point, I was actually redirected to joomla.org by James!!! He may have thought it to be a stupid question but I think many may disagree.

Since I am frustrated and after several unanswered posts, I feel I have nothing to lose. So, my final question is: How can I get an answer to posts that No one answers (Rockateers too). Maybee, I just need to submit a ticket and avoid waiting some electronic Mbytes database space….or should I continue to come to this forum and hope that someone can save me some time. A reminder: I try to give back and I think I ALWAYS have.

I have had to google with the right keywords to get ANSWERS to most all questions I have had. This is after waiting with no Post answers. Andy ….where are you???? All the goggling and many hours of research has also lead me to the conclusion that the Rockateers and others know the answers but just don’t bother to save someone the many hours of research. All of us are busy but I could of spent this same time growing and buying more licenses.
      "
Should I rely on Google to spider the rockettheme sight….sorry but I am "0 "for. So far. Many of my questions I have had have no answer, sooooo naturally I think the answers should default to the the Rockateer(s). Andy or James…Be my “Hero”.

Before you answer…Remember the customer is always right…. and I want to be your customer. I love the templates ...how about some support for the in-betweeners. I think this speaks for a lot of your club members!

Frustrated and Hope you dont do the "move to" OR remove

    • Site examples...I am curious to see

Also, is the requests standard template questions vs. Joomla CMS questions/custom work?

If it is template questions - they (RT TEAM) provide the forum for members to help each other, as stated when you sign up. Also, they are clear that the templates are as, as is, and they help on the forum when they can, so, they can keep spending time building better templates. Plus, they provide excellent tutorials (you would be amazed at how many newbies don't check out the tutorials - how do I know this? Because I get Private Messages about questions that if they looked in the tutorials they would find the answers - I PM them back with the link to the tutorials and then they PM me back OMG - I didn't know that, thanks)

We as members should work together - to help each other when we can...but golly gee williker - if it is custom work or joomla itself we -

      A) pay for custom work or B) go to Joomla.org for help.

Cause believe me - I have lots of custom work I wish could be answered here, but I know that is not going to happen in this lifetime... :P Ok, if I am real nice and find the right person at the right time...I can squeeze something out. ::), but I have to be realistic...time is money. So, just like you stated above - your time is important, well, so it only stands to understand it applies to everyone on this board - their time is just as equally important too.

Also, on a personal note - I would love to know how to do that too (what you are requesting menu wise) but then I have a list of things I would love to know how to do... ;D

    • Hi,

I scanned some of your latest posts and they are often about Joomla specific questions not template related ones. What do you expect? You joined a template club. There are more then one million posts in the joomla.org boards about Joomla. Why should I ask them here a second time?

Please give us examples when Rockettheme specific questions have not been answered!

      Roland

PS: Your current post has been posted on a SUNDAY. Please take a moment to think if you can really expect an answer within hours...

    • Let me get this right - you post on a Sunday and after only 1 1/2 hours you complain about not getting help (on top of that: on a customization-question, that does not involve anything "not working as it should be")?
      That's plainly ignorant, sorry.

The Community here is brilliant and I'm proud to be part of it and I also do my best to help others, where I can. In fact most of my posts here are about helping others. I don't get paid for this or something and that's not what I want either - I do it, because I like the Community here and because I know, that I can depend on others here too, in case I'd need help.

When someone (i.E. James) forwards people to joomla.org, this happens for a reason. A lot of questions (i.E. the good old "why do/don't my modules show up?"-ItemID bugs) are about Joomla Core Functions and not anything the Templates can or should influence. It's not RT's Job to fix Joomla-Issues nor should it be. Even if we would start fixing Joomla-Bugs it would be plainly senseless work, because
      a) the people over at Joomla would maybe not even get to know the bug (and they should)
      b) the fixes would not become part of the next Joomla-Release

About your problem: There is no easy way for that, because to do so, Joomla would have to support per-item class-suffixes in the menu-manager, which it doesn't. There are menu-Components such as swMenumaker, that give you a more fine-grained control over your menus - maybe try one of these.

    • Sorry - You can remove this post. I had a big launch deadline and was very frustrated trying to meet the demands of 3 different inputs. I automatically expected this post not be answered and saw the view count increase with no replys. I will no longer post on this forum....once again ...the templates are awesome .

Yeah your right....my questions seem to have a joomla specific flavor and I will go to joomla.org to post in the future. I am just trying to scratch a living.

      Once again I am sorry

    • There is no reason not to post here - hang tough - you won't find better support anywhere, trust me.

You can expect quick replies to any RocketTheme related questions. Questions that are not related to RocketTheme templates/ extensions, etc., get a lower priority for obvious reasons but are answered in due course.

On a unrelated note, I'm guessing that I am the biker dude? ;) :D

      Cheers
