    • The Problem is $MS doesnt offer IE 7 to Windows 2000 which is still in a lot of offices. So those people dont get to add anything to their PC unless the IT guy does it and the IT guy has given up trying to explain that he needs to take the time out of rebooting the Windows server to install a way better web browser on everyones PC. --- At a certain point we should just stop caring about the IE 6 6.5 crowd and as a whole force them to upgrade or switch to FF. We have to be willing to take the flack when the CEO calls you on the weekend and says his website is all goofed up. The answer is no it is YOUR SOFTWARE not my code. I am sick of IE 6 problems!!!!!!!!

      edit:
Wow, I just visited the link to the w3cshools site and saw the OS stats for Jan. Win 2000 is 4.0% -- seems small to me except when you see that Mac OS is only 4.4% . It wont be much longer before we can just ignore IE 6, 6.5 as we no longer worry about 640 x480 or even much concern over 800 x 600.

      You make some good points.

I would like to add that I have given up coding for 800 x 6000 resolution ever since I realized that a 19" CRT monitor can be bought for $50 or less and a 17" monitor for around $20. Heck, I have a link to some high-end flatscreen 22" CRT monitors for $89 - $98 dollars (refurbished and great), heck I bought 3 of them already and I have clients that are waiting for the next shipment to arrive!

I pity anyone that is using IE6 as their main browser. Myself I don't care for IE 7 either.

    • As an end user, I always preferred IE over Netscape.

And, at the time, websites were still 'basic' html.

When FF came out, I was happy to switch, since it was better than IE. And we can thank FF for shaking MS from their monopolistic nap to finally 'fix' IE with IE7.

Now, I prefer FF, even with all the updates IE7 has done. Too little, too late.
Looking at the stats, it's nice to see FF continuing it's climb.

As for resolution, it wasn't always the size of the monitor that was the problem. It was the video cards. PCs came with the resolution set to low so the computer would seem faster. And most people wouldn't know what they are missing. How many people 10 years ago thought that letterbox movies were 'chopped' up and smaller? :)

    • [offtopic]Hey Brian, you would not believe how many clients that I see that have not set up their monitor - for example I saw a client recently that had a nice 19" flatscreen CRT monitor that had a black band about 1" wide all around the screen. They had been using it like this for a year or so... a quick flick of the wrist and I adjusted the monitor, much to the astonishment of the client. Having the screen 2" higher and 2" wider made quite a difference, lol.
