Decent news / blog / module componet? thumbnails with text description?!

Hi Ive been having trouble with joomla, ive made my site, edited it all, changed the css to fit my brand, but just not happy with the way my contents displayed
Ive done a search and i just cant find the aswer im looking for.
In a ideal world i would like a simple way of inputing news and having controll over the css of the news text.
Fot my site i feel its really important i have a image with the into text of my news.
The closest i have got is having a image in the into with the text....but i dont like the way the image and intro text stays at the top of the rest of the news.
Im looking for something like this: www.i-dj.co.uk/news/
is there a solution to my problem or is joomla just not what im looking for?

I will take a look at mini frontpage cheers.
sorry if i didnt explain correctly , but i am already using joomla
have just installed a fresh 1.5 so am looking to get it right this time. and the news layout is very important to what i would like my site to do.
any other pointers in this thread will be greatfully accepted
