rt_showcar left module not collapsing

I'm sure I am screwing this up...I have searched the forums but I guess rt_showcar is an old template. I am having problems with the left module position not collapsing when I have everything unpublished in it on a certain page of the site. I have checked and deleted my trash bin and I have gone through every module to make sure nothing is published to the left module, and I have checked in the "view in line with positions" option to make sure there wasn't another module in the left hand column.
My efforts have been in vain. I did read some other posts relative to Bentobox and it was recommended that I download Firebug. I did this and I attempted to change the css and html div class to a percentage instead of a fixed px. Obviously, I am here writing about it so it didn't work either.

as you can see, the content is being pushed to the right off the page while the left column is empty.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

- Showcar is one of the RT free templates which don't really have support. I don't have time to help you right now as I am just going out the door to help a pal move, however I'll check back later.
