.tgz files HELP cannot download/install?

Hi,
I am new to .tgz file types. I tried downloading the template and then installing it via joomla control panel but I get an error message. I also tried to unpack it and upload to my site manually but when I extract I only get one file with no file type attached.
Please help! I downloaded a file extension program to try to get it in a proper format, or get my machine to recognize the .tgz file and that is also not working. I am missing something. ???

- 7zip can recognise .tgz files: www.7-zip.org/

- I have a program that recognizes .tgz files, but when I extract the files (because I think I have to manually upload the files instead of using the install feature of joomla cpanel) I just get one file which my computer is not recognizing with any file extension...?
