    • Thanks Ben

I found a posting regarding the update of RocketTheme extensions and Rokbridge will not be upgraded to Joomla 1.6

I already have a Joomla 1.6 site recently installed/set up and spent a lot of time working around bugs with it but I don't mind as it's great learning. I had been using Kunena (Jomla 1.6 and 1.5) and Vanilla (which also doesn't integrate with Joomla but users can log in with Facebook etc) in my other sites! I think it may be more suitable to simply have one good forum to cover all our services and as RocketTheme have developed the Hybrid template it would match my site perfectly! To be honest I don't think syncing is so important and I am a member of hundreds of sites so would signing into my main site and then a forum bother me! Not really but then again that's just me :P

I installed phpBB3 this afternoon and tried to install the free RocketTheme template to see how easy it was! It all went wrong hence my post to find out if the instructions a very clear.

    • That sounds like a good way of thinking and there are lots of add ons for phpBB3 if you wanted to add functionality later on.

As for installation issues, what is going wrong?

Is phpBB3 installing fine for you or is it the template that's not installing?

Here's the install instructions for Quasar:

Are you getting through these steps?

    • Thanks Ben. Everything installed and looking cool!

I decided to sign up to the phpbb club and sit down and go through your tutorials/videos. I was then able to install everything. I had one error and a member here 'Yaani' loggid in and fixed it for me! I have no regrets and the forum is just great. I found it a real learning curve compared to Kunena but now find it so much easier to add forums and it looks much better with your theme Hybrid. Now I have a great event site with a powerful forum to match!

    • Awesome! :cheesy:

Glad it's up and running for ya.

Some notes on what to do next...
Set up Akeeba backup additional database backups and have them sent to a different hosting server if you have one. There is an automated feature for this and since this is a real time dynamic feature for a site, it's nice to have daily backups of the database at least. You can also backup files on a per directory basis and have them zipped so any uploaded photos or files get saved as well.
Look into the group features and permissions. These things can be dialed down to custom per user if you want or per group, or however you can dream up to configure it. Permissions and Groups are very powerful here if you really want to dig into it.

    • Thanks Ben I started to look into the permissions during the early hours of this morning. My site is hosted with Rochen and they have a twice daily back up. I had assumed this would be enough?

The features are excellent and it's going to take more time to understand them Glad I took your advice. Now to get some members.

Backups all depend on how comfortable you are if your site gets hacked or if something gets corrupted. It could be something as simple as having 100 spam registrations and you just want to revert back to a backup before those registrations started.

In general, it's usually good practice to NEVER rely on a hosting companies backups. Sure, one hard-drive might go down and they have a backup on a second...but what if there's a fire and the computer is destroyed? Your backup is in the same place as your site.

If you're comfortable with the hosting companies backups and feel that's enough, I'd definitely suggest using Akeeba Backup just so you can have a backup of your site and the database settings on your own computer.

If something does happen though and you have database backups at your disposal, you can easily drop all tables and import your backup all through phpMyAdmin. Then your site is back up and running.
