Can I have phpbb3 in OWN database?

    • I'm waiting for the MixxMag phpbb3 theme to show up and I have a question.

When running this combination of Joomla 1.5 and Phpbb3, could we then still have Phpbb3 in it's own database for faster access or do we need to put the phpbb3-tables in the same database, as Joomla itself?

    • Actually if your referring to rokbridge, it works fine with 2 databases. However, if your looking for speed, your probably not going to find it any faster.

Okay? I've always been of the impression that "ironing out" the spikes, would be better.

Ie. that 1.000 users online in the same database would cause more strain on the overall experience for the end user, but if you split them up in 500 users in each their own database (like seperate databases for joomla and phpbb3), the pressure would be lower.

But - I'm not the technical minded, so I will trust your advice, of course - and at the end of the day, it might be possible to have this seperat database setup, but it would be eaiser to put it all in one. :)

Often times web hosts put a limit on the size of a database. Thinking ahead it would be good practice for you to use seperate databases for all major components.

Yes, that's another thing. Our forum is quite big and out of the 2 gb limit we have now, almost half is already taken by forumdatabase.

On the other hand - as we have our own server, we can adjust this limit :)
