Okay? I've always been of the impression that "ironing out" the spikes, would be better.
Ie. that 1.000 users online in the same database would cause more strain on the overall experience for the end user, but if you split them up in 500 users in each their own database (like seperate databases for joomla and phpbb3), the pressure would be lower.
But - I'm not the technical minded, so I will trust your advice, of course - and at the end of the day, it might be possible to have this seperat database setup, but it would be eaiser to put it all in one.
