    phpbb3 club enquiry

Posted 16 years 3 days ago
    • Hello,

I cannot find any information anywhere about the phpbb3 templates and how they work. I was hoping someone might be able to provide some answers to some questions as I was considering joining the phpbb3 club.

      1. How do the templates work?
      2. How do they integrate with joomla and how successful is this integration?
      3. Do they replicate my site menus/headings etc
      4. Can you link users of joomla to phpbb3, how is this done and can you make it so there is only one joomla login?

I am using joomla 1.5 with a mixmagg template.

      Any help would be appreciated,

    • The phpBB3 templates here are really cool. There is a RokBB plugin that needs to be installed on phpBB3 and gives you similar template functionality as far as set up goes that you would find in the Joomla template manager.

RokBridge is a great way to sync users and it's what's used here as well. You can login from either side, Joomla or phpBB3, and you will be logged in to the other. This is a benefit because when you click on an automated emails link back to a topic, you need to login to see it but you don't have to click back to Joomla, login, then click back to the post.

This is a phpBB3 specific template and RokBridge syncs the user logins, but it does not bring Joomla modules into the template. You can put Joomla modules in the template, but you need to put the code in the template files. Many of our users do this and you'll find a lot of very helpful posts in the forum for this.

Part of the idea of this system is for everything to be very non-invasive. phpBB3 still runs on it's own, Joomla runs on it's own, a change or update on one does not negatively affect the other.

Putting you Joomla menu into the phpBB3 site is really pretty easy. It requires making on file that you FTP over to your forum directory. All the dropdowns and stuff you have on your Joomla menu work on you phpBB3 side too.

There are also several different layouts to choose from for each template. You can have left column, right column, or full width for the forum. You can also choose which forum menus and user links show up on those. This is all through the RokBB plugin.
