menus - using one rt menu in another rt template?

    • Hi all,

Is there a way to keep the Verstatility II template and use the Splitmenu II with it?
I see how I can install other menus like JSCook as a module and place their name in the index.php file of Verstatility II.

Can someone go through the steps of this for me, if it is possible. (Please gear your answer to someone who knows text editing well, plus can follow instructions on changing code and has a superficial friendship with php and databases.)

Thanks! This would give me a perfect solution for the site I have been building.

it's a little more than text editing to do that..

the menus aren't just made to plug in to other templates, although it is possible to use them.

i'd recommend contacting youyou and having him do a custom mod for you.

    • Thanks for the info, I will ask. I can get into the code but don't know how to make a module (I have a vague recollection from the days of early Mambo but focus on setting up sites now.)

    • You don't really need to know how to make a module.

The biggest challenge is that goodies like RT_SplitMenu and RT_SuckerFish are coded to be integrated into the template (to save the user having to install and load modules etc), so whilst it is possible to strip out the relevant code and insert it into another template (for example, on my site I integrated Vortex ButtonMenu into SubtleTrooper), you need to be quite familiar with PHP and CSS, and understand how the elements are being loaded.

Of course, once you've actually got it running you'll probably then need to go through the relevant CSS to alter the style to fit the current template. You also need to bear in mind that in some cases the target template may need some physical reconfiguration to make the additional component fit - for example, adding a space for SplitMenu.

It's not a complete nightmare to do but it's certainly not for the faint-of-heart ;D

    • Thank you for the elaboration. I am very comfortable with CSS and changing RT CSS, I can cut and paste php by trial and error but lack a background to know why. Saw a post where someone put the split menu into Verstatility
      #msg27210
so I will give copy my template and give it a shot. Definitely not faint of heart :)

That was Youyou. He's the RT expert at menus. Just send a PM and he's always kind to help.
