I'm an iPad owner and I can say that the Joomla experience is underwhelming, no thanks in part to Apple's lack of support of Rich Text editing in their webkit standards. Adminipad does a passable job but it's not much better than using the Blogpress app if you're only writing articles.
Basically the limiting factor is TinyMCE. Rokpad and Simple CE work just fine in editing. But you're writing articles in code, not WYSIWYG
I'm willing to give Mission Control a go, but I can tell you now that the only iPad optimized interface right now is Adminipad and it's worth it just for basic admin stuff.
Someone needs to get out there and develop a full blown administration app similar to JAM for the iPhone.
Yes, I can verify that Mission Control doesn't work on the iPad. Any tab with a dropdown menu attached to it doesn't allow navigation. Dashboard, Users, and Configure work just fine, nothing else does.
Given that I need iPad navigation, I'm steering clear of the template until this is fixed.
The problem is the 'hover' event is not supported by touch devices very well. Considering this is how most CSS dropdown menus work, it's a problem. We plan on adding 'touch' support to these menus in future updates.. just haven't gotten there yet.. stay tuned.
From a UI perspecitve on Kherpi on the iPad, it requires clicking on something once to open it, then again to select it. I'm fine with it behaving that way.
I noticed that the Panacea (July) template's menu functions just fine on the iPad, so navigation similar to that design would work perfectly for me.
