Joomla template install failure

  • Joomla template install failure

    • I am running into a brick wall installing any RT theme. I've tried standalone and bundles (Panacea and Quasar, specifically). I've tried the Joomla installer, unzipping and FTPing to the tmp folder (and it keeps telling me I need to enter a package directory, so I obviously don't know what to enter there. When I finally think I got the address right the result was a blank screen). I even tried FTPing the unzipped directory directly to the templates folder. I've also re-downloaded the various files. At one point I had Panacea partially working in the admin, but there was something missing in Gantry, "gantryloader.class.php" file. How do you manually install all the Gantry pieces?

      I've since removed all traces (I think) of the above mentioned templates except MissionControl. Now, every time I try to install a template I get the following mesage: "Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in D:\Hosting... joomla\libraries\joomla\libraries\joomla\filessystem\file.php on line 304" Another time it was the same message on line 111. Oddly I can install a RT module without issues.

      I'm running Joomla 1.5.23 with PHP 5.2.17 (on Win NT). It was a clean install when this all started. All the directory permissions are writable except the log directory (I don't know how to change this). I have Error Reporting set to max, but it isn't giving me any additional info. Debug is set to Yes. GoDaddy is my host.

      I'm not a *complete* noob; I have some experience with Joomla, but the basic framework was installed for me in the past. I also don't know hardly anything about PHP. As I'm on a shared server I probably don't have access to the php.ini file anyway (memory limit is 32MB). I've searched the RT forums, am looking in the GoDaddy help section, but have not found any good answers yet. Is this a GoDaddy issue? Anyone have any ideas?

      Thank you!

    • Hi ten gallon,

      ok if you're getting time outs the only way is to install using ''Install from Directory'' to do this navigate to the temp directory and create a new folder, call it anything you like (test for this example), now upload the template to the test folder and unpack it, then in the installer make the path;

      whatever-your path-is/ tmp/test

      Essentially you just add test to what's already there.

      Should install no problems.

    • I read in the GoDaddy forums that the time out issue was pretty common with the Win accounts, so I switched to Linux. And I'm getting the same issue. To make everything more complicated, now I can't get my ftp program to connect. I used the Filezilla wizard, read through their connections wiki and adjusted my firewall, but still no connection. GoDaddy has a built in ftp, so I thought what the heck? give it a try. And apparently I don't know my correct path to the package. I got the absolute path from the GoDaddy account info panel and added /joomla/tmp/temp, where I had placed my template, but Joomla tells me "Please enter a package directory".

    • Nope. I can use my ftp, but I still can't install a template (the original problem). I tried your solution, but apparently can't figure out what my path is supposed to be. I've tried everything I can think of starting with the site name (or the IP address), then / and the entire path I see in the folder structure. I have a feeling I'm missing something foolishly obvious like slash somewhere.
