I have a friends site hosted with disc space of 250mb which has slowly increased to 285mb.
The host company 'Purple Cloud' are sending me mails to increase this disc space.
I have emailed support to ask how when no new file uploads are happening to the site, how this disc space usage is increasing.. I am having no replies from support.
Can anyone here tell me how this increase may be happening?

Backups?
New content is stored in DB (images text etc...)
Emails can take up space if he uses the host for email management, sometimes a default account can get tons of spam that builds up if not deleted.
If he is running CPANELX he can usually do a check in the disk management section to see if it files/db/emails etc... that are taking up the space.
250mb is very small for a website though, maybe an increase would be better in the long run anyway.
I have looked through the control panel and I cant really see whats what. although in the reports section the email size is at 180mb. I cant see how to or if I can delete old emails, spam etc. all emails are forwarded to external email addresses so are not needed. I may be barking up the wrong tree here.
As suggested and we chatted about last time, the host is a bit rubbish, the size allowed is small, The move to new host has to happen soon I guess.

Maybe the email system is storing AND forwarding the emails?
If you log into webmail you should be able to see if any emails exist on the server.
If your using CpanelX there is usually an option in webmail for using Roundcube to view webmail.
If you have that option, select it and see if you have emails in the inbox.
If you do, you will see a settings icon (a cog) in the bottom left of the mail folder panel, if you select it you can empty the inbox folder
If not ask you host to delete all your emails for you and then make sure the mailbox is forwarding and not storing your mail.
