Hello,
Is there a photo gallery extension that designates a thumbnail to separate galleries... I don't know what comes to mind but I'm thinking of something like the facebook photo section. It shows a preview image for you to click on to see the entire gallery.
Anything out there?

Yes, I believe Phoca Gallery can do that...
I don't know if you have in mind a module (Phoca Gallery Image Module can be set to show popup or link to gallery) or an article thumbnail...
...in the latter case, Phoca Gallery can still do that, through the relevant plugin, but an odd decision has been made regarding the syntax of the plugin:
- Instead of choosing the exact gallery(-ies) that you want to display, you choose galleries to exclude...the result: when you add a new gallery, it is automatically added to all articles where the specific gallery id has not been explicitly excluded from displaying...
