    • If you have a used joompack, you may be able to help me. I am doing a website on a temporary domain and when it's finished I shall use JP to transfer to the main domain. When JP has finished reinstalling your site, you have to click a link that both deletes the installation directory, and also puts the .htccess back in place. Does this mean that it's okay to change htaccess.txt to ".htaccess" before I transfer the site using JP, or should I change it after I have moved it?

    • Hi Penn,

I often use JoomlaPack but I'm not familiar with the screen you are talking about.

Which installer are you using, 2 or 3?

Usually when I move a site, the last screen is the same as the regular Joomla install or the Rocket Launcher.

I.e., it reminds you to delete or rename the installation directory but makes no mention of the htaccess.txt.

I believe when you run a complete backup it copies all the files in the directory, including the htaccess.txt, or .htaccess file if you've renamed it.

So, when you upload the the files, or upload the package on the server your file should be there.

If there is a .htaccess file in the root, it would be overwritten.

If you're worried about it, you can always make a copy of the file and upload it when you finish.

And, you can always delete the installation directory through your FTP.

    • Okay, are you using kickstart? Basically this is a small script that you also place in to your directory along with a backup created by JP. Then when you open the URL, you click on kickstarts and it brings up a screen with a big green button with start on it. Once it had loaded a load of files, you then go to basically what looks like a joomla installation. Once you have finished putting in all your all details, you then have to go back to kickstart and click on a link that automatically removes the installation folder and initialises.htaccess again, I assume if you had it originally.

    • Never used Kick Start.

Just run a full backup, upload the zip, extract it, and run the install.

Kick Start confused me from the beginning.

I almost gave up, but I tried the full backup option, and as I mentioned, uploaded the zip, extracted it, and ran the install.

Try that option, you may find it easier to do.

    • Kickstart is the best, I have had to use it many times. You just FTP your back up file and Kickstart file to the server, then you just type in your domaine name and kickstart.php " www.yourdomine.com/kickstart.php " and it automatically unpacks installs and with only a few questions. It then deletes the install file and activates your .htaccess file. I works really well to move your site to another server. I had spent hours trying to unzip and move over my site to another server with out any luck. Then I used kick start and I was back up in running in about 10 min.
