Being a relative "noob," it would benefit me greatly if someone could answer a few questions on these modules and addons. I've been wanting a "community" site for some time. In fact, it was the whole concept. Joomla came along and I was hooked. I'm still learning the ins and outs of how everything works together, which has been a fascinating experience for me in and of itself. In the last year, RocketTheme has grounded me (and addicted me) to design and taught me things I didn't know I needed to know about what I could do with my site. I have been distracted (to a fault) with design more than function the last three months. LOL!
While Joomla is basically a CMS, it was based on a "community/portal" site so many could post and share files, etc. upon registration. It seems to me that with the core features of Joomla, and one or two free extensions coupled with K2, you can achieve a "community" site without the hassle and expense of Community Builder, JomSocial and/or MyBlog.
When I finally felt I was mastering Joomla and template customization, along came K2! It will take a bit of retooling and site re-organization, but what's a bit more time compared to the expense if I already have what I need?
I have been struggling with a decision on whether to spend about $200 to test drive these programs yet I believe K2 will essentially allow me to do what MyBlog does.
The only thing I really want from all this is a separate subdomain/URL for each user to settle into which is cross referenced within my site's framework. I've looked for a specific module to do that, but thus far haven't found one OR I haven't figured out how to do it (YET!).
Has anyone had enough experience with these modules to tell me if they are worth the expense? If so, which ones?
Anybody up to helping me tackle this decision? To me, "easy" doesn't necessarily mean "better" and I'm a do it yourself kinda' gal who likes to pinch her pennies. :cheesy:
